Six decisions to make before development begins.
A useful technology project starts with the work to improve, the people involved and the conditions the solution must meet. Use this checklist to prepare for a focused discovery conversation.
Objective and users
Name the process to improve, the people who use it and the outcome you want to evaluate.
Current process
Map the key steps, approvals, exceptions and hand-offs before deciding what to automate or redesign.
Data and integrations
Identify source records, information owners, quality concerns and systems the solution may need to connect with.
First release and validation
Separate essential functionality from later improvements. Agree how a pilot or first release will be reviewed.
Security and access
Consider user roles, sensitive information, approvals, audit needs and the risks that need to be managed.
Operation and support
Confirm who will approve, use and maintain the solution, plus training and support expectations.
Keep the first conversation focused. Start with the two or three questions that could change the scope, cost or delivery sequence. The rest can be worked through during discovery.
